On August 7th of this year, a Hispanic group I belong to gathered after a Church service and was told about a ministry called “Lighthouse.” The ministry’s purpose is to preach the Gospel to sailors. On that day we were also told that a [naval tall] ship had arrived in North Vancouver from Chile. The ship’s name was “La Esmeralda” and it was berthed near the Lighthouse Seafarers Centre. After hearing about the Esmeralda a group of seven of us from Willingdon Church went down to the dock where the ship was berthed. Because there were many people visiting the ship, there wasn’t an opportunity to speak with anyone specifically about God. So, we simply visited the ship and decided that some of our group (a man named Walter and I) would return the next day to preach to the sailors. Of course my daughters Paulina, 7, and Karem, 14, also went with us. What an unforgettable experience it was!

I have a desire to go to Cuba as a missionary but never imagined that I could serve God together with my family here in Vancouver. Before we went onboard the Esmeralda we prayed that at least one person would hear us and be converted. Karem and Walter spoke to a number of sailors and four of them accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour! Two others ignored us, however, saying they were not interested. But, a sailor that showed me around the ship, called Karim, also accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. The experience was wonderful! In total five sailors accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour!

THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE TO SERVE YOU TOGETHER WITH MY FAMILY!
